Sunday Morning Breakfast Club

You might have heard about the Sunday morning group. You may have heard we’re a beginner’s group, or that we ride slow, stop too much and always stop to eat. You heard at least partially right!

Our group was born of the need to fill a gap in the ride calendar; that being a beginner-friendly ride that was fun, easy and routine enough that as the group became more skilled, they could still keep it beginner friendly.

Although the venue has varied we always stop as a group and have breakfast somewhere during the ride. Over the last year we have been stopping at Mill Creek on California Street.

Since the beginning, the ride has enjoyed a modest growth of riders. A great core group that rides almost every Sunday developed with a spattering of guests that show up to enjoy a nice recovery ride, or a first time out with a group type of ride. The core group has progressed to the point we have dedicated one weekend of the month, usually the third Sunday, where we do a “challenge ride”. This could be longer distance, more hills, or both!

While the core group has advanced to the point we don’t call it a beginner’s ride anymore, we are all in agreement that we keep the ride beginner friendly. What this means is; our pace is determined by who shows up. If we have slower riders, we adapt as a group. We have set places where we always stop and let slower riders catch up. The core group riders take turns riding with the newer riders and we catch up at the regroup spots. This has been very successful and allows us to get our workout while still making it fun for the newer rider.

We’re also a “run what you brung” kind of group. Nobody will look down their nose at you or call you a Fred if you show up riding a mountain bike, or wearing regular clothes. We only require you to wear a bicycle helmet. Our group has road bikes, mountain bikes, a recumbent and trailers for children; we ride just about anything you can imagine. Come join us for food, friends and fun! For more info, contact the ride director at rides@rwbtc.org
